The Cleethorpes Ladies Choir was formed by the late Vera Burton in 1971. Under the baton of Vera, and later, Brenda Oxborrow, the choir flourished and enjoyed success in many Music festivals as well as undertaking exchange visits with Choirs in Germany, France and Denmark.
In 1996 the Choir changed its name to Grimsby & Cleethorpes Ladies Choir.
The Choir has been a member of the National Association of Choirs for many years and is an active member of the Lincolnshire group.
In past years the Choir has undertaken several concert tours, to Spain, Southern Ireland and Italy, and have performed in such diverse places as Barcelona Cathedral and the Tivoli Gardens in Denmark.
The Choir has performed with many well-known Bands, including the Black Dyke Band on three occasions, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Brass Band, the City of Sheffield Pipe Band, and more locally, the Kingsway Printers Cleethorpes Band.
Concerts with other Choirs and Bands regularly take place, often on an exchange basis, and various Charities have benefited from these performances. Smaller concerts in aid of local charities, singing at weddings and visits to entertain at Residential Homes all contribute to a busy calendar of events.
The Choir rehearse each Tuesday evening at the Central Hall, Duncombe Street, Grimsby,
